CHILDREN EDUCATED ON HIV/AIDS
Children at Buduburam in the Central Region who are aged between nine and 13 marked this year’s World AIDS Day with a football tournament organised by Right to Play.
The tournament was in partnership with Tomorrow’s People Sports Academy (TOPSA) at Buduburam. It featured 10 teams in and around the Buduburam camp.
The Director of TOPSA, Johnson O. Pewou, said the academy was using football to educate the children on AIDS because the game brought people together.
He noted that educating children on AIDS at their tender ages would help promote awareness of the disease.
Ebenezer Quaynor, the Country Data Officer of Right to Play, said children were vulnerable to diseases so it was the responsibility of all to educate them.
The children were taken through special design games aimed at promoting awareness of the disease. Some of the special games were shelter from the storm, stigma attack, knock down and hopes and dreams.
He said the organisation had succeeded in targeting about 40,000 children in the country who would be on HIV/AIDS prevention.
