YOUTH URGE TO DESIST FROM VIOLENCE

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ms Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, has advised the youth to desist from activities that could lead to electoral violence before, during and after the general election.
She advised that activities such as destroying posters, name calling, fighting or quarrelling especially students, were a threat to peace during the elections.
The minister, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Weija Constituency was speaking to about 400 students of the Odorgono Senior High School, Apostle Safo Senior High School, ATECO Senior High School and St Margaret Mary Senior High School at a quiz competition organised by Pro-life Multimedia Ghana, a Christian NGO at the premises of the Odorgono Senior High School.
Ms Botchwey recalled a series of cases, where students had been arrested for destroying posters and advised the students and the youth to avoid throwing their future away by indulging in illegal activities that might halt their future ambitions.
She said, the country had earned respect from other countries because of the peaceful elections the country had had since 1992, stressing that there was no need for fighting and name calling before, during and after the election since peace was what every Ghanaian needed.
Ms Botchwey said the youth must avoid contact with people or friends who would want them to meddle in activities that might lead to violence.
She stated, “The youth are the pride and future of this country and should not destroy their future because of politics.”
