Tony Baffoe to assist youth sport

Anthony Baffoe, a former captain of the Ghana Black Stars, has pledged support and commitment to the development of the youth through education and football.
The former captain made the pledge when he was officially pronounced the ambassador of Play Soccer Ghana (PSG), a non-profit organisation that focuses on providing children between the ages of five and 15 in disadvantaged communities with education through soccer.
The PSG, which was established in 2001, take children through a 48-week curriculum covering health, social and soccer skills which are taught by volunteers.
In his acceptance speech, Anthony Baffoe explained that he was inspired by the love Ghanaians had shown to him over the years, for which reason he wanted to “give something back to the youth”.
He stressed the need for the education and development of the youth through creative activities such as football, adding, “If I had not been educated, I couldn’t have been here.”
He added that education was the foundation to success and advised the children to take their education seriously.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of PSG, Mr Kweku Awotwi, said to achieve the aim of the organisation, 1,200 children had been registered at 12 sites in four of the 10 regions.
They are the Ashanti, Central, Eastern and Greater Accra regions and there are 72 volunteer instructors.
