Malaria Day

The Auditorium of the National Theatre last Thursday was the scene of great dramatic performance by 10 schools to commemorate this year’s “2nd World Malaria Day Sanofi Schools Drama Competition”.
New Achimota Presby Basic School was crowned winners of the keen and entertaining competition with 59 points. They won the prestigious prize of a computer, a printer, a trophy and exercise books.
The second position was clinched by Osu Presby Boys’ Primary School with 58.6 points and the school took home a computer and some books, while Ashiaman 3A Primary took the third position with 58.2 points and had a computer as its prize.
The drama competition, which was organised by the National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP) under the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and supported by Sanofi Aventis, a drug manufacturing company in France, formed part of activities scheduled to celebrate this year’s World Malaria Day which fell on April 25 on the theme “Counting Malaria Out”.
All the performances by the schools concentrated on malaria prevention and education on the causes, effects and solutions to one of the most dangerous, non-communicable diseases in the country.
The competition attracted over 200 people who filled the auditorium to watch what the children had to offer.
The schools that took part in the competition were Gorm Basic School, Madina D/A 3 Primary, Ashiaman 3A Primary, Pantang Hospital DC Primary, Osu Presby Boys’ Primary, New Achimota Presby Basic, Dodowa Methodist Basic ‘2’, Manhean TMA Primary ‘B’, Weija Presby Primary and Wajir Barracks ‘B’.
