Tema, Okai-Koi are Winners
The Tema Metro and the Okai-Koi Sub-metro have won the annual inter-district and sub-metro Under-12 boys and Under-15 girls soccer tournaments, respectively.
The Under-15 Girls of the Tema Metro, who were the defending champions, trashed Ayawaso Sub-metro by four goals to nil to stamp their dominance in that category.
However, Tema Metro’s dominance in the Under-12 category came to an end when, as the defending champions, they were beaten by Okai-Koi Sub-metro 5-3 on penalties.
The winners of the tournaments were given trophies and packs of Sandra ice cream imported by Sucatrade Limited, which sponsored the events.
The tournaments, which were organised by the Greater Accra Basic Schools Sports Association, took place at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium. In all, 13 districts and sub-metros in Accra took part in the tourney.
The event, which is organised annually to select players from the various districts to represent the Greater Accra Region, saw the display of skills, fast-paced games and beautiful team work, especially in the girls Under-15 semi-finals.
The Co-ordinator of games at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium, Mr Charles Amusah, said this year’s tournaments were aimed at selecting players for this year’s Milo Sports Festival which will take place between July 4 and 12.
He added that this year’s tournaments had revealed good youngsters for the region and attributed that to the willingness of the government to ensure that physical education on the school curricular was taken seriously.
Mr Amusah encouraged the participating teams and players to take their education seriously, as well as exercise regularly to enhance their football talents.
